Galway Elementary School

The Galway Elementary School project included a partial renovation and a substantial addition to the existing building.  Galway Elementary School is the largest elementary school in the Montgomery County Public School system.  Work areas include approximately 19,000 sq. ft. of minor renovation area, 35,000 sq. ft. of major renovation area and 54,000 sq. ft. of addition area.

WAI performed a complete mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical design. The mechanical system design consists of a water source heat pump plant with a boiler/tower arrangement, terminal water source heat pumps (WSHP’s) for space comfort, a dedicated outside air ventilation system with dual pass energy recovery units (ERU’s) and full DDC-EMCS.  Typical classrooms are provided with ventilation air from the ERU’s, a small water source heat pump for conditioning purposes, a classroom sink, direct and indirect lighting, task oriented power and data connections and a specialized teacher data/power outlet.  The construction budget for this project was $19 million.
