WAI provided the design and integration of the mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems for the major
renovation of a 140,000 sq. ft. existing building, including a complete replacement of the mechanical center plant. The Center houses primarily office space, classrooms, computer labs, a cafeteria,
etc. This project included: replacing chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and Air Handling Units, as well as energy
management and VAV retrofits, lighting design (including motion sensors), fire sprinkler and alarm assessments,
etc. Research was also done by WAI to incorporate a geothermal water source heat pump system.
The new systems: meet the needs of the users, provided good indoor air quality and energy efficiency, easily maintainable, and has low first cost as well as low life cycle costs, and was cognizant of project construction budget limitations. Upgrades were made to the systems to meet current
code and compliance with ASHRAE Standard 62 (as required for LEED Gold certification). This project was completed in Revit (BIM).
