WAI provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services to replace the boilers and air handler units (AHU’s) for this facility. This facility was constructed in 1994 and held the original boilers and AHU’s.
WAI first provided a conditions assessment to ascertain the existing conditions of the equipment. The existing boilers and AHU’s were original to the building, and were approaching the end of their expected service life. Both the boilers and the AHU’s struggled to maintain standard operation. This project encompassed the replacement of both hot water boilers and seven AHUs. All equipment was replaced in-kind, and required electrical support.
The boiler plant and three of the seven AHUs were located on the basement level and the remaining four AHUs were located within a mechanical penthouse. The design maintained life safety standards and complied with the Department of Health and Department of Veterans Affairs codes, procedures and regulations. This building was occupied while under construction. Phasing and special design consideration was taken to maintain security, noise control, and obtain normal operation during construction.
