Glenarden Woods Elementary School recently completed construction for a major renovation, as a state-of-the-art, “green” school for approximately 472 students. This renovated school includes: a health room, library support rooms (including head end room), TV studio and control rooms, science rooms, special education classrooms, a computer lab, vocal and general music, a gymnasium, art space, etc.
WAI provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services to include a complete replacement of the MEP systems with the exception of underground plumbing piping. This project used a geothermal water source heat pump system maximizing the HVAC system’s sustainability, and includes emergency electrical design. This $23.1 million renovation project achieved LEED Gold certification, won the National Blue Ribbon for Exemplary High Performing Schools and was a Wintergreen Award Finalist.
