WAI provided full design services for mechanical, HVAC acoustics, plumbing, fire protection engineering systems, electrical power distribution, lighting design, and IT systems for this new 66,915 sq. ft. elementary school, located in Montgomery County. To ensure Seven Locks Elementary School was eye catching; WAI directed the lighting design towards user tasks and used creative and unique light fixtures. Typical classrooms for this building were provided with dedicated ventilation air from the energy recovery units (ERU’s), a small water source heat pump for conditioning purposes, a classroom sink, direct/indirect lighting, task-oriented power and data connections and a specialized teacher data/power outlet.
This project used a geothermal water source heat pump system maximizing the HVAC system’s sustainability and achieving part load efficiencies of EER = 30+ and exceeded its clients’ requirement with receiving LEED Gold certification.
